Challenges that face humanitarian logistics

This paper illustrates the importance of logistics in any country’s welfare and the quality of life for its residences. When logistics is hampered the whole country’s economic situation and its residences quality of life will be negatively affected. As a case study, the city of Gaza in the Palestinian territory was chosen in order to emphasize the importance of logistics. Additionally, this city was chosen because of the challenges that humanitarian aid providing organizations are facing due to the Israeli imposed restrictions on Gaza, which makes the aid delivery process very challenging. Moreover, all the academic literature discusses issues such as: information sharing among humanitarian organizations, the need for institutional education to provide the humanitarian logistics filed with the required human resources. Additionally, the importance of using up to date technology to help in the planning process for the development projects and aid delivery in case of sudden disasters. It can be claimed that the city of Gaza does not suffer from any of the challenges that were mentioned in the academic literature; the only challenge there is the Israeli Palestinian conflict, which results in many procedures that hinder the work of the aid providing organizations. Gaza is being put under the spotlight as it is different. The city is under siege from six years which created a real humanitarian crisis, and made 80% of the population aid dependent. Therefore, a solution has to be found to help the humanitarian aid to operate in Gaza. On the other hand, the relationship between politics and humanitarian logistics has to be discussed more in the literature as many countries are suffering from political conflicts and it seems this tendency is growing.Business Schoo
