Cost Modelling for Composite Manufacture

The increase use of composite materials in this modern world of science and technology has led to the development of the composite manufacturing techniques and their abundant use. Due to the gigantic growth of. composite applications in almost all the industrial sectors, researchers and engineers are trying to find various ways for the economic growth of composite materials. If the cost modelling of the composite manufacturing processes according to the requirement is done iri the proper way along with the application of world class manufacturing techniques, the composite material industry will flourish in very less time. This thesis is about the cost modelling of alternative composite manufacturing routes and then comparing these processes to obtain the cheapest and the most economical way. All the three popular manufacturing processes that are used in almost every composite material industry i.e. RTM, Resin infusion and Hand Lay-up are suitable for the economic production of composite manufacture in marine, aerospace, transportation, sports goods, and consumer goods industries. Since the use of these three processes depends upon the requirement of the material produced but for the production of the large structures with good surface finish, complex geometry and superb performance, RTM is proved to be the most economical and viable composite manufacturing technique. Moreover if the modern world class manufacturing techniques are applied in the production line during the manufacture of composites, we can cut down the cost of the product to larger extent.School of Engineering, Faculty of Technolog
