New, emerging, metal-containing nanomaterials, including copper-nanoparticles (Cu NPs), open up a wide range of unanswered questions on fate, behaviour, chemistry and toxicity in the marine environment. Through a 7 day aquatic exposure of the shore crab Carcinus maenas to 200 μg L-1 and 1 mg L-1 Cu NPs, or 1 mg L-1 CuSO4, this study, the first of its kind, aims to ascertain differences in accumulation in target organs, Na+-Cu2+ interactions and Cu induced oxidative stress.
