This paper begins the process of addressing a lack of research into the understanding of beach user perception, in relation to beach morphology at Perranporth, Cornwall. The Wave Hub: an initiative to harness wave energy from the marine environment has sparked a negative reaction from a group of local surfers. It has been suggested that the device will cause a decrease in wave activity and wave height. This has the potential to affect coastal morphological processes and strengthen rip activity. Rip currents are the primary hazard facing ocean swimmers.
