Today’s globally interconnected world offers a vast array of new opportunities, but has simultaneously created a need for greater intercultural understanding (Koehne, 2006). This article provides a rationale for the role that Higher Education must play in preparing students for the global market place. It outlines the scope of the ‘internationalisation’ agenda within Higher Education and goes on to explore the notion of what it means to ‘internationalise the curriculum’. The article offers an approach to curriculum development which uses a gap analysis tool (developed by the author) and discussion across disciplinary teams.
