This dissertation 'Rugby and Cornish Identity in the Twentieth Century' focuses on the importance of rugby in the Cornish conscience and how rugby is used as an expression of Cornish identity. The dissertation then moves on to look at how the importance of rugby and Cornish identity differs in various parts of the county. Two case studies of rugby clubs in Cornwall have been used to illustrate this. The first club is in the west of Cornwall and the second is in the east. The dissertation focuses on the dissimilar histories of the two clubs due to their regional differences. The dissertation concludes that despite regional differences, these are not as prevalent today due to the successes of both teams.Faculty of Art
