The dissertation is a tange of chapters from a children's fantasy novel: The Magic Key. It is the tale of Meagan Oakes' metaphorical journey through her imagination and subconscious, where she travels from adolescence to maturity whilst overcoming her grief and depression; emerging victorious, autonomous and enlightened. The symbolism explores gender and associated religious issues. On a literal level Meagan's imagination becomes problematic after her father's murder; bringing concerns that she is depressed and going crazy. The narration attempts to balance this view leaving it for the reader to decide.
