This dissertation is a collection of poetry which has the subject of Pirates as its organising theme. I have attempted to avoid dealing with this subject in a direct or obvious fashion as it is a topic which has been much written about from both an historical perspective and from the vantage point of popular myth. However, I am interested in the notions of popular culture which tend to attach to the legendary status of piracy and have therefore chosen to use a variety of source materials/reference works which enable me to explore the topic in a more roundabout manner. There is an element of narrative in the writing but my work is also an experiment into what happens when different kinds of language are made to react-with and work-upon each ...
