A public lecture commissioned by the exhibitions dept. of The Glasgow School of Art as part of the Alastair Gray Spheres of Influence Season. Investigating the themes of lettering and typography in the work of Alasdair Gray and other artists shown in the Spheres of influence II exhibition this lecture covered the history of the alphabet from the earliest known pictograms in order to unpick contemporary themes identified in the work displayed in the exhibition. Research was gathered from a wide range of secondary secondary sources as well as new correspondence with Gray and other leading Lettering experts/practitioners
