This dissertation is devoted to the development of transition metal-free reduction methods by employing boron Lewis acids and to the synthesis of novel boron Lewis acid catalysts. The chemoselective C=N reduction of oxime ethers to hydroxylamines cannot be reliably achieved by transition metal-catalyzed hydrogenations. These are usually accompanied by N–O bond cleavage, resulting in the formation of amines. This overreduction was circumvented by employing the boron Lewis acid B(C6F5)3 as catalyst.
