A model for the synthesis of rain attenuation time series with 1-second time resolution is presented. Rain attenuation time series are generated by simulating the interaction of a hypothetical electromagnetic wave with a rain cell, that is modeled as an exponentially-shaped synthetic rain structure (EXCELL model). The evolution in time (change in the dimension and intensity plus spatial translation) is modeled on the basis of the observation of radar-derived rain fields. The preliminary results presented in this contribution give a hint of the complexity of the model under development, which has the final goal of simulating the temporal evolution of full rain fields starting from single rain cells, and thus, of allowing to accurately assess...
