Abstract Background Amyloid precursor protein (APP) is cleaved by \u3b2-site amyloid precursor protein-cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) to produce \u3b2-amyloid (A\u3b2), a critical pathogenic peptide in Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD).
