NGOs are acknowledged by many to more effective agents of development than governments or commercial interests. This book critically examines the role of NGOs, which have increased considerably in number and importance over the last decade. It describes how NGOs must improve the way they measure and account for their performance if they are to be truly effective. The book is presented in three sections: conceptual frameworks; case studies, and ways forward. Specialist contributors examine key issues under the main theme of NGO performance and accountability.
