The Act was designed to prevent the use of drugs which are 'capable of having harmful effects sufficient to constitute a social problem'. The Road Traffic Act 1988 is the main piece of legislation which covers drink and drug driving offences in the UK.Two positive test results from scientifically different methods are required to prove impairment. The first is a Field Impairment Test (FIT test) which is subjective. The FIT is a roadside test assessing behaviour, concept of time and demeanour.
