Atmospheric icing happens when the surfaces of exposed structures are subjected to contact with super-cooled water droplets or snow particles. Ice build-up on overhead transmission and distribution lines may lead to mechanical failure or insulator flashover, sometimes resulting in power outages with major socioeconomic consequences.\ud The present study focused on the preparation of heterogeneous coatings (HCs) with hydro- and icephobic properties presenting a number of advantages, such as easy application, time-saving and low cost. The homo- and HCs were prepared by using different methods such as self-assembly, nanoparticles-based and Plasma-based techniques.\ud Super-hydrophobic coatings with very low wetting hysteresis are also consider...
