Distinguishing among similar names of authors and attributing proper credit to each one have loomed as a problem in publishing throughout the years, particularly in academics. ORCID is an initiative that addresses this issue. ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID). It is an open, non-profit initiative that provides a registry of unique researcher identifiers resulting in a transparent method of linking research activities and published outputs to these identifiers.
