The term ‘martial art’ tends to be synonymous with the Asian fighting traditions in the popular mind. However martial arts may be found in every culture, especially with the rich tradition of arts in the West. This paper attempts to redefine the term ‘martial art’ while also proposing a new classification system applicable for all fighting traditions globally
