Activity from individual neurons in primary motor cortex (M1) and ventral premotor cortex (PMv) can be modeled as a linear function of the direction of arm movement. If this signal is generated, it represents an extrinsic construct built upon various parallel coordinate transformations from the areas of the brain associated with vision. Previous work suggests that the PMv is a unique area in which to investigate how these visual signals are transformed into motor commands. The purpose of this study was to evaluate evidence of this visuospatial transformation in PMv and M1.
