We present the environment Combien? (How Many? in French) in the framework of an experimentation. The pedagogical aim is to make the student master the representations and reasoning of elementary discrete mathematics, using to that purpose an activity of combinatorics problem solving. The framework is that of a learning situation presenting some obstacles that cannot be by-passed by the student, because he is forced to follow an explicit structured approach. The exercises are chosen to favour cognitive conflicts triggering reflection on his errors shown to him at each step with some explanations, but without giving him the answer.
