Peuplement et territoires protohistoriques du VIIIe au Ier s. av. J.-C. en Languedoc oriental (Gard-Hérault)

Some are still seen today as villages or towns, while others were deserted for new centres of settlement. The reasons for this evolution are grasped through the spatial dynamic of protohistoric settlement. Following an introduction on the conditions of data gathering and processing in the nearly 300 sites and 250 zones of agrarian spread, we will expose the reasoning and the tools used in order to model the networks of settlement and "finage" (agrarian territories exploited by a rural community). The results underline different phases in the spatial organisation of settlement, allowing us to identify the mutations of protohistoric settlement patterns on several scales. Thanks to ethnological examples, we are able to shed light on the functioning of territorial systems.Le Languedoc oriental, entre Nîmes et Montpellier, densément peuplé dès la préhistoire, se structure en territoires stables durant l'Âge du Fer, autour d'agglomérations proto-urbaines. Certaines perdurent encore sous la forme de villages ou de villes mais d'autres ont été abandonnées au profit de nouveaux foyers de peuplement. Les causes de cette évolution sont appréhendées à travers la dynamique spatiale du peuplement protohistorique. Après une présentation des conditions d'acquisition et de traitement des données, près de 300 établissements et 250 zones d'épandage agraire, sont exposés la démarche et les outils utilisés pour la modélisation des réseaux d'habitats et des finages. Les résultats mettent en évidence différentes phases dans la structuration spatiale du peuplement permettant de cerner des mutations, à plusieurs échelles, dans les formes territoriales protohistoriques dont le fonctionnement a pu être éclairé par des exemples ethnologiques
