If road transport offers undeniable advantages for its users, its impacts create more and more local and global problems. Works initiated by the Predit serve four main objectives : to act on transport flows, to better use existing infrastructures, to control bad effects, to help operators improve their performances. It is in the field of urban logistics that the mid-way assessment shows the best results, probably thanks to the continuity of the means since the launch of the “Goods in town” programme in 1993. For inter-city or international transport, efforts will have to be intensified to meet public expectations in terms of the effectiveness of alternative means to road transport and the reduction of impacts of road transportation.Aujourd'hui, la route domine très largement le transport de marchandises et la tendance est encore à la hausse. Si le transport routier offre d'incontestables qualités pour ses utilisateurs, ses impacts posent de plus en plus de problèmes locaux et globaux. Les travaux initiés par le Predit servent quatre grands objectifs : agir sur les flux de transports, mieux utiliser les infrastructures existantes, maîtriser les nuisances, aider les opérateurs à améliorer leurs performances. C'est dans le champ de la logistique urbaine que le bilan à mi-parcours montre les meilleurs résultats, probablement grâce à la constance des moyens depuis le lancement du programme “Marchandises en ville” en 1993. Pour les transports interurbains ou internationaux, il faudra redoubler d'efforts pour répondre aux attentes publiques quant à l'efficacité des modes alternatifs à la route et la réduction des impacts du transport routier
