QUEST FOR AN AUDIENCE AND TACTICS FOR NURTURING LOYALTY. A sociology of work and artitic use of NICT. Net art has developed outside traditional institutions of dissemination and reception of contemporary art. Its presence on the Web has promoted original ways of showing and disseminating work, and these inital experiences in “exhibiting” have led artists to embark on the quest for a new audience. The question of types of relations to the works is raised, along with that of identification of this audience, on wich the actualization of this art form depends. How is the anticipation of these uses made possible ? Which contracts and strategies for nurturing loyalty stem from artistic attemps to know the participants ? In this context, can specific “relations with the public” be qualified ? Based on case studies, this article puts forward some answers to these questions by illuminating reconfigurations of “artistic work » in relation to information and communication technologies.Le Net art s'est développé à l'écart des structures traditionnelles de diffusion et de réception de l'art contemporain. D'une part, ses manifestations et inscriptions sur Internet ont promu des modes inédits de monstration et de propagation des œuvres. D'autre part, ce premier travail de « mise en exposition » a entraîné les artistes dans la quête d'un nouveau public. À la question de l'identification de ce public, duquel dépend l'actualisation de cette forme d'art, s'adjoint celle des modes de relations aux œuvres. Comment l'anticipation de ces usages est-il rendu possible ? À quels contrats et stratégies de fidélisation donnent lieu les tentatives pour connaître les participants ? Peut-on qualifier dans ce contexte des « rapports au public » spécifiques ? Ce texte propose, à partir de l'étude de cas concrets, d'apporter quelques réponses à ces questions en éclairant les reconfigurations du « travail artistique » aux prises avec les technologies de l'information et de la communication
