MONSTER CITIES AND LITTERARY OBSESSIONS: FROM CAIRO TO MEXICO CITY. <br />This paper tries to understand why the World's big cities provoke such apocalyptic descriptions from the mass media? In Lagos, Lima or Calcutta, life conditions seem the most horrible that newswriters could possibly describe. But, even when you don't know the Third World's big cities, it is odd to see how similar are the discurses about them, whatever different are the local conditions of their development.
