At the beginning of the eighteenth century, rough debates took place among English poets as to the renewal of the pastoral. Some poets hoped to make it more attractive by turning it into an Oriental setting. We analyze in this article the relationship between the Orient and idyllic worlds according to the European imagination, the adaptation of the Oriental world to the genre of the pastoral, and the creation of a new type of writing - the pseudo-oriental pastoral - which goes far beyond the limitations imposed by a servile rewriting of classical pastorals and creates new literary motifs.Au début du XVIIIe siècle, des débats houleux animent les poètes anglais au sujet du renouvellement de la forme de la pastorale.
