Penser les rumeurs : Une question discutée des sciences sociales

International audienceThis text aims at providing an overview of the scientific treatment of rumour. By tracing the outlines of the history of scientific work devoted to this topic, it becomes apparent that rumours have accompanied the main currents and debates that have been the driving force in the social sciences over the past half-century, and, as a result, have never been given an established sociological status. Furthermore, the lack of scientific definition has fostered a multidisciplinary interest in this object, which has continued up to the present time. Starting with the last generation of works published on the topic, the author attempts to detect the most recent points of agreement that might form a new phase in the study of rumour.Ce texte a pour objectif de faire un état des lieux du traitement scientifique des rumeurs. En retraçant à grands traits l'histoire de la production scientifique sur cet objet, on découvre d'une part que les rumeurs ont accompagné les principaux courants et débats qui ont animé les sciences sociales au cours du demi-siècle écoulé, restant de ce fait sans statut sociologique établi. D'autre part, que cette indétermination scientifique a favorisé jusqu'à aujourd'hui la permanence d'un intérêt pluridisciplinaire pour l'objet. À partir de la dernière génération de travaux publiés sur la question, l'auteur tente de relever les derniers points d'accords qui pourraient constituer une nouvelle étape dans l'approche des rumeurs
