This survey of the urban fabric on the site of the Roman amphitheatre at Tours leads to a different lecture beside the traditional historical topography, by stressing less on the situations than on the functional, spatial and temporal relationships between the urban objects. The modelling of the dynamics of the urban fabric (streets, plots but also buildings that emerge from the ancient amphitheatre) allows to identify and to describe the processes resulting in the formation of the urban space in the Medieval and Modern Periods.
