For 30 years Dubai economic development has been directly and indirectly linked to oil. But Dubai is also a merchant city with a maritime tradition founded on pearl-fishing and sea-trade. It has become a center for transit and reexportation not only to its traditionnal partners as Iran or India, but to more and more numerous, various and distant countries.
