Expressive writing concerns the evocation of positive and negative events by reporting emotions associated to these events. The literature has shown that 3 to 4 disclosure sessions of 15-20 minutes are sufficient for inducing important emotional regulations in the writer. This thesis comprises a review of the different contexts of use of expressive writing, its effects on the psychological and physical well-being of the writers and of the functional models proposed to explain this written practice. This assessment also encompasses some critical analyses that have questioned the efficacy of this technique.
