International audienceThis paper begins by underlying the odd loyalty which ties the episcopate of Gascony to Benedict XIII. Over the first decade of the 15 th century, the Pope endeavoured to get seats for his fellows, with the help of princes. Despite the existence of various ecclesiological currents of thought, what mattered were the sole convictions of the prelates who exercised jurisdictionnal powers. During the council, Benedict XIII did not face any difficulty to have them recognize his legitimacy. But he had to face widespread criticism against his political inertia. If the prelates of Gascony did not attend the council in order to voice their opposition to him, they did leave him in the following months and rallied the Pisan obedie...
