The faunal association, composed of 22 species, is characteristiccof the Upper Middle Pleistocene. A taphonomic analysis of the remains found in the different archaeological levels indicates that humans and carnivores alternatively visited the cave. Nonetheless. The bone accumulation has an essentially anthropic origin. Selective hunting of red deer and ibex was carried out all year roud by Lazaret man, with the whole carcass being cut up. Other herbivores testify to a sporadic hunt. From the patterns of fracturing of the long bones and butchery marks the principal steps in the preparation of game for nourishment can be followed. L'association faunique, riche de 22 espèces est caractéristique de la fin du Pléistocène moyen. L'analyse taphonomique des vestiges découverts sur les différents niveaux archéologiques indique que les hommes et les carnivores ont alternativement fréquenté la grotte. Néanmoins, l'accumulation osseuse est essentiellement d'origine anthropique. Les hommes du Lazaret pratiquaient toute l'année une chasse sélective eu cerf et au bouquetin. Les carcasses complètent étaient rapportées au campement pour y être dépecées. La présence des autres herbivores traduit une chasse occasionelle. La fracturation des os longs et les marques de boucherie permettent de suivre les principales étapes du traitement alimentaire du gibier.
