International audienceBased on archeological field dates and analyses of the geographical and cultural landscape, the present article tries to rethink the site of Cahuachi (200 BC - 450 AD) in terms of a «ceremonial political center». This concept reintegrates to Cahuachi its residential function as well as its character of political and religious pole of the Nazca. A better understanding of the geographical surroundings of Cahuachi as a vital complement of the cultural landscape allows us to grasp the reasons for which this place was selected by the Nazca as their main site.
