The emergence of local development: the case of Bóly in Southern Transdanubia. The subject of the study is an overall entity formed by a local society and its territory. The starting-point is the heart of the system, the municipality of Bóly, the seat of a certain number of economic and social institutions, and of facilities that make it a centre for services on the local level. The study examines the transformations of the frameworks of economic and social life and the changes in the structure of the territory that accompanied them during the course of the half-century that elapsed between the imposition of the collectivist system and its gradual disappearance in the 1990s.
