Impact des stratégies multifonctionnelles sur la performance économique des exploitations agricoles en zone de savanes de Centrafrique face à la crise cotonnière

The cotton crisis in the Central African Republic brought the farms to adopt various strategies to adapt itself of it. The analysis in terms of multifunctionality permits to sustain the following thesis, about the farms in the savannas' zone of the Central African Republic facing the crisis: the farms with multifunctional strategies have a better economic performance face to the cotton crisis. In this thesis, we try to contribute to research aiming to understand the problematic of the economic performance and the contribution of the strategies of the family farms to the multifunctionality of the agriculture in the Central African Republic. The theoretical framework of reference is based on the approach of the multifunctionality of agriculture and the global analysis of the family farm. We approached the question by direct survey of the producers, coupled to interviews and bibliographic research. The results show that the adopted strategies allow the farms to contribute to the MFA of the CAR, while assuring the functions of economics merchant productions, the non merchant environmental functions relied on the activities of the farms and the social function and the function of maintaining the viability in rural areas. The analysis of the productivity of the production factors reveals the good economic performances of the farms. L'analyse en termes de multifonctionnalité permet de soutenir la thèse suivante, à propos des exploitations agricoles dans la zone des savanes de Centrafrique face à la crise : les exploitations agricoles à stratégies multifonctionnelles ont une meilleure performance économique face à la crise cotonnière. Dans cette thèse, nous essayons de contribuer au courant de recherche visant à mieux comprendre les problématiques de la performance économique et de la contribution des stratégies des exploitations agricoles à la multifonctionnalité de l'agriculture centrafricaine. Le cadre théorique de référence est celui de l'approche de la multifonctionnalité de l'agriculture et de l'analyse globale des exploitations agricoles. Nous avons abordé la question par des enquêtes directes des producteurs, couplées à des entretiens et recherches bibliographiques. Les résultats montrent que les stratégies adoptées permettent aux exploitations de contribuer à la MFA centrafricaine, en assurant les fonctions de productions marchandes, les fonctions environnementales non-marchandes liées aux activités des exploitations, et les fonctions sociales et de maintien de la viabilité en zone rurale. L'analyse de la productivité des facteurs de production révèle les bonnes performances économiques de ces exploitations. Ces résultats amènent à faire des propositions d'opérations de recherche et d'actions publiques à entreprendre en vue d'appuyer et améliorer les stratégies développées par les exploitations agricole
