International audienceSince the Treaty of Nertchinsk signed in 1689, which was followed by the Treaty of Kiakhta in 1728, Russia and China inaugurated their diplomatic and economic relations. Therefore, the caravans traveled from Moscow to Beijing for the trade of furs. They were sent on behalf of the Tsar who holds the monopoly on trade with China.
