22 p.International audienceThis study argues against the assumption that some languages are 'more pragmatic', or more 'discourse-oriented', than others, and in favour of the alternative idea that all languages are equally 'syntactic' and 'pragmatic', but vary with respect to the overt spell-out of some properties involving, e.g., the identity of the speech participants, or information structure.
