Based in 1988 on a North African terrain, we have proposed an explanatory matrix of the Islamic mobilization, insisting upon the fact that its foundations were identitarian and political more than strictly religious. This analysis was progressively nurtured and enriched in other parts of the Arab world, from Cairo to Sanaa. Since 1988, the international context has changed, a new generation of activists has emerged. But the mechanism of the identitarian Islamic affirmation, as described in " The Islamic Movement in North Africa " (University of Texas Press) then in " Face to Face with Political Islam " (I.B. Tauris) persists in comparable terms : the resurging popularity of the Islamic terminology has inspired not just one but an infinite variety of political projects.En partant du terrain maghrébin, nous avions proposé dès 1988 une matrice explicative des mobilisations islamiques, mettant en avant leurs fondements plus identitaires et politiques que strictement religieux. Cette analyse s'est progressivement nourrie et enrichie au contact d'autres régions du monde arabe, du Caire à Sanaa.
