International audienceWere the poor wheat crops the origins of the economic crisis during the period 1800-1848? Based on new research outcomes, the paper aims at a discussion of Labrousse's theory. These crises, early in the century, were triggered by commercial, industrial or financial factors which used to be minimized in France. The link of bad harvests with demographic crises looks unconvincing, in a time of severe epidemics.
