Soigner par le contact animalier. Aux origines de la recherche sur les interactions humains/animaux à but thérapeutique

A paraîtreInternational audienceSince the 1960s, a still increasing number of publications have reported the psychic and\or physiological health benefits of the contact with certain animals (mostly dogs, cats, horses and dolphins). Carried mainly by the disciplines of the psyche (psychiatry, psychology, psychotherapy), these practices and\or experiments of care using interactions with animals are even today the object of numerous internal controversies. Are the effects real? By what means are they produced? Are they generalizable? On what conditions? The purpose of this paper is to go back to the origin of research regarding Interactions with Animals with Therapeutic purpose ( I.A.T.), in order to understand what is at stakes with these controversies. Thus, we will present literature published between 1960 and 1985 in the United States. We will then connect the analysis of its contents to the constitution of a network of heterogeneous actors, all interested in the production of "strong" knowledges about the positive effects of interactions with animals on human health.Depuis les années 1960, un nombre toujours croissant de publications rapporte les bienfaits psychiques et/ou physiologiques du contact avec certains animaux (notamment les chiens, les chats, les chevaux et les dauphins) sur la santé humaine. Portées majoritairement par les disciplines du psychisme (psychiatrie, psychologie, psychothérapie), ces pratiques et/ou expériences de soin par le contact animalier sont encore aujourd'hui l'objet de nombreuses controverses internes. Les effets sont-ils réels ? Par quels canaux passent-ils ? Sont-ils généralisables ? A quelles conditions ? Le but de cet article est de remonter à l'origine de la recherche sur les Interactions avec l'Animal à but Thérapeutique (I.A.T.) pour mieux comprendre les enjeux de ces controverses. Pour cela, nous étudierons essentiellement la littérature publiée entre 1960 et 1985 aux Etats-Unis, en reliant l'analyse de son contenu à la constitution d'un réseau d'acteurs hétéroclites tous intéressés par la production de savoirs " robustes " sur les effets positifs du contact avec l'animal sur la santé humaine
