Semantic variations in Russian suffix -ovat- The Russian suffix -ovat- is presented as a referential and referential marker of the implicit operations established on the conceptual level. As the referential marker, the suffix constructs a relationship between the single occurrence povat and the referential value p. As the notional marker, the suffix's function consists in localization of povat on the notional domain and in the construction of the opposition between both values. The evaluative opposition appears when the adjectives povat are formed from the qualifying adjectives and it corresponds to the expression of diminution and indeterminacy values.
