The transformation of perspectives The establishment of diplomatic relations between France and the new Algerian state during decolonization had important consequences for collective understandings of migration between the two territories. Focusing on the period between the Evian Accord of 1962 and the official end of Algerian emigration in 1973, this article emphasizes the fact that decolonization brought the end of special legal regimes and the granting of new rights of circulation, residency, and access to French nationality for former colonial subjects.
