Add to ORKGNational audienceThis paper deals with the emergence of cultural journalism in France based on a socio-historical approach. Firstly we make an account of what the cultural press owes to the literary journals of the 17th and the 18th centuries and to the writers and artists of the 19th century. Secondly, we focus on the emergence of professional structures led by personalities of art criticism which will turn culture into a recognized journalism specialty during the first half of the 20th century.
