La diathèse verbale dans trois langues romanes : vers une description dans le cadre de la Grammaire Fonctionnelle Discursive

This thesis aims to compare three Romance languages (French, Spanish and Italian) with respect to the phenomenon of diathesis. The goal is, on the one hand, to separate the properties of diathesis into the various linguistic levels of analysis (pragmatics, semantics, syntax) which the passive, impersonal, reflexive and causative constructions share; and on the other, to examine what is language-specific in the functioning of these languages and to reveal their possibilities and limits in terms of these phenomena. In addition to the implications which the results of the investigation have for the typology of Romance languages, this study aims at improving certain previous descriptions of diathetic constructions. Moreover, it enables to confirm the idea that language is a consistent system, insofar as similar pragmatics and semantics functions receive different morphosyntactical configurations according to the properties of each language. Finally, this work describes the characteristics of each construction in terms of the Functional Discourse Grammar model, since this constitutes an ideal framework due to the organization of its levels of linguistic description, namely: pragmatics > semantics > morphosyntax. In this perspective, the phenomenon of diathesis can be considered as an abstract choice by the speaker at the levels of pragmatics and semantics which has (concrete) consequences at the syntactic and morphological encoding levels.L'objectif de cette thèse est de confronter trois langues romanes : le français, l'espagnol et l'italien autour du phénomène de la diathèse, afin d'examiner d'une part les propriétés des diathèses à différents niveaux de description linguistique (pragmatique, sémantique, syntaxe), qui réunissent les constructions passive, impersonnelle, réflexive et causative ; d'autre part d'examiner les particularités de fonctionnement de ces langues et de mettre au jour leurs possibilités et leurs limites à travers ce phénomène. Cette étude a non seulement des implications au niveau de la typologie des langues romanes, mais elle a également l'ambition d'améliorer certaines descriptions existantes des constructions diathétiques. En outre, elle permet de confirmer l'idée que la langue est un système cohérent dans lequel tout se tient, dans la mesure où des fonctions pragmatico-sémantiques similaires reçoivent différentes configurations morphosyntaxiques, selon les propriétés de chaque langue. Finalement, ce travail décrit les caractéristiques de chaque construction en termes de la Grammaire Fonctionnelle Discursive, qui constitue un cadre tout à fait pertinent, en raison notamment de la structuration de ses niveaux de description linguistique, comme suit : pragmatique > sémantique > morphosyntaxe.
