International audienceLaurion , mining, ore dressing and metallurgical processing remains cover about 200 km2. About five miles of ancient and modern works mined in marble and schist have been explored and some of them surveyed during several missions that have succeeded. The ancient works are divided into shafts, galleries, inclined ways, and working areas that have a high degree of homogeneity in their architectural design. Deep sites are still visible despite the accumulations of rock that sometimes plug the networks. Often covered by calcite concretions, underground mining works are sometimes plugged by sediments coming down from the surface or by sorting and filling up by the working areas.
