Les voies des Hommes sincères parmi les soufis

This paper proposes the translation of a treaty of sufism by Abû 'Abd al-Rahmân al-Sulamî (937-1021) entitled Manâhij al-sâdiqîn min al-sûfiyya. This is a new edition, in the course of publication in Arabic, of a text already published under the title Manâhij al-'ârifîn, which was in fact a shortened version of the full text proposed here. This methodically constructed treaty is both apologetic and didactic, and sets out the doctrine of sufism and the successive steps in the spiritual path of the sufis. Sometimes it explicitates the technical terminology of their language. The spirituality that Sulamî presents is strongly influenced by the vision of the masters of Khurâsân, although Junayd (died 911), one of the main masters of Iraki sufism, is mentioned several times. The original features of the ancient schools of spirituality, those of Baghdad and Nishapur in particular, remain present in the author's writings, although they disappeared in his times to merge into a single designation under the name sufiyya. This text is of interest to us in that it retains this diversity of terminology, methods and steps in spiritual education. In addition, we note the efforts deployed by the author to place the sufis within the field of orthodoxy, and sufism as a science in its own right alongside the other disciplines of Islamic learning.Cet article propose la traduction d'un traité de soufisme d'Abû 'Abd al-Rahmân al-Sulamî (937-1021) intitulé Manâhij al-sâdiqîn min al-sûfiyya. Il s'agit d'une nouvelle édition, en cours de publication en langue arabe, d'un texte déjà édité sous le titre Manâhij al-'ârifîn qui n'était en réalité qu'une version abrégée du texte intégral ici proposé. Œuvre tout à la fois apologétique et didactique, ce traité, méthodiquement construit, expose la doctrine du soufisme et les étapes successives du cheminement spirituel des soufis. Parfois, il explicite la terminologie technique de leur langage. La spiritualité que présente Sulamî est fortement influencée par la vision des maîtres du Khurâsân même si Junayd (m. 911), l'un de maîtres majeurs du soufisme irakien, est plusieurs fois mentionné. Les traits originels des anciennes écoles de spiritualité, celles de Bagdad et de Nichapour en particulier, demeurent présents dans les écrits de l'auteur, bien qu'ils aient disparu à son époque pour se fondre dans une appellation unique sous le terme sufiyya. C'est l'intérêt de ce texte que de nous conserver cette diversité dans la terminologie, les méthodes et les étapes de l'éducation spirituelle. On notera en outre les efforts déployés par l'auteur pour inscrire les soufis dans le champ de l'orthodoxie et le soufisme comme une science à part entière aux côtés des autres disciplines du savoir islamique
