In this paper, the official curriculum of the teaching of Mathematics in France will be studied through the evolution of the different ways of teaching algebra in secondary schools (students from 11 to 15 years old). To that end, our study will focus on three objects and three viewpoints. The first one deals with the function ('raisons d'être') of algebraic expressions in the early phase of literal calculus teaching. The second one is related to the role of distributive law as a technologic and theoretical tool, and the last one concerns the status of inequations as a modelling tool. Finally the comparison between these three studies' results will allow us to highlight the dominant trends in the evolution of algebra teaching in secondary sc...
