Le pasteur Laurent Cadoret (1770-1861) et une de ses œuvres : l'École du Dimanche de Luneray

International audienceThis article concerns the ministry of pastor Laurent Cadoret in Luneray. Basing the study on mainly archival sources, we try to understand why this former sailor, converted to Protestantism and trained by British non-conformists, was not the pioneer of the French movement for Sunday Schools, although he had opened the first of these schools on 7 August 1814 in Luneray. In the course of the investigation, this study also shows how the English trend originating with Whitefield and stimulated by the Scotsman David Bogue and theLondon Missionary Society, was a predecessor of a revivalist current parallel to the Methodist movement and which contributed to the reconstruction of Protestantism in Normandy at the beginning of the 19th century, before the advent of the Revival coming from Geneva and promoted by other Scotsmen : Robert Haldane, later Henry Drummond, founder of the Continental Society. Dieser Artikel handelt vom Wirken des Pastors Laurent Cadoret in Luneray. In erster Linie auf der Grundlage von Archivunterlagen haben wir versucht zu verstehen, warum dieser vormalige Seefahrer, der durch britische Dissidenten zum Protestantismus kam und dadurch geprägt wurde, nicht zum Wegbereiter der französischen Bewegung der Sonntagsschulen wurde, nachdem er die erste dieser Schulen am 7. August 1814 in Luneray eröffnet hatte. Im Laufe der Forschungen zeigt diese Studie, wie die englische Bewegung Whitefields, durch den Schotten David Bogue und die Londoner Mission ins Leben gerufen, zum Vorläufer einer der Methodistenbewegung parallelen Erweckungsbewegung wurde und somit zum Wiederaufbau des Protestantismus in der Normandie zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts beitrug, bevor eine andere Erweckungsbewegung aus Genf aufkam und von anderen Schotten unterstützt wurde : Robert Haldane und schliesslich Henry Drummond, Gründer der Kontinentalen Gesellschaft.Cet article porte sur le ministère du pasteur Laurent Cadoret à Luneray. À partir de sources essentiellement archivistiques, nous avons cherché à comprendre pourquoi cet ancien marin, venu au protestantisme et formé chez les dissidents britanniques n'a pas été le pionner du mouvement français des Écoles du Dimanche, après avoir ouvert la première de ces écoles, le 7 août 1814, à Luneray. Au fil de l'exploration, cette étude montre aussi comment le courant whitefieldien anglais, insufflé par l'Écossais David Bogue et la Mission de Londres, a été précurseur d'un courant du Réveil parallèle au courant méthodiste, contribuant à la reconstruction du protestantisme normand au début du XIXe siècle, avant que ne souffle le Réveil venu de Genève, poussé par d'autres Écossais : Robert Haldane, puis Henry Drummond fondateur de la Société Continentale
