International audienceThe aim of this article is to analyse the relationship between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Russia through the process leading to the signature of the Founding Act in May 1997. Through the study of the positions and the interactions of various national and international actors, this article intends to deconstruct the bargaining within different areas, showing their specifies and suggesting some guidelines to investigate the complex relations between NATO and Russia. Thanks to the analysis of these negotiations and the inclusion of Central and Eastern European countries into the equation, the article will also study the emergence and the influence of the memory games.
