Abstract

International audienceUnlike the portrait that medical elites of the nineteenth century have transmitted to us, many sources—individual complaints and petitions, more and more numerous, that the less affluent have adressed to the health officials of the cities—show that the establishment of a health policy and public health aroused hope in populations and a new confidence with respect to official medicine.
