International audienceThis paper presents an analysis of the role of reported speech in newspaper articles commenting on a political speech. The corpus comprises thirty-one articles published in five American newspapers and dealing with President Obama's speech on the healthcare reform before Congress in September 2009. The aim is to understand the differences between the discourse used in quotes, both from Obama's speech and from other sources commenting on the speech, and the discourse produced directly by the journalists.
