Pour une sémiotique indigène du genre : Ecrire le genre en contexte postcolonial

International audienceTowards an 'indigenous semiotics' of gender Gender and cultural singularities in a postcolonial context Abstract: This article is concerned by the representation of womanhood in a postcolonial context. It aims at examining the cultural and historical specificities of gender performed in literature, as 2 a space where the complexity of identities is negotiated, and where the categories 'gender', 'postcolonial' and 'culture' are necessarily entangled. It thus aims at rethinking gender in the situation of cultural hybridity that is South Asian context which, besides, gave birth and nurtured many seminal discussions on the postcolonial issue, on gender in a non-Western context and its treatment by Western critics. This article finally aims at underlining the significance of historicizing and locating the subject, gender, history and culture through the prism of literature, which formulates an " indigenous semiotics " which relates feminine articulation to the social, racial and historical permutations.Cet article a pour ambition d'interroger la représentation du féminin en contexte postcolonial, et d'examiner les singularités culturelles et historiques du genre telles que manifestées dans l'expression littéraire comme espace privilégié des négociations qui s'opèrent dans la formulation complexe de l'identité, où les catégories de « genre », de « postcolonialité » et de « culture » ne cessent de se croiser et de se chevaucher. Il vise ainsi à repenser le genre dans un contexte d'identités hybrides, sur le terrain du sous-continent indien et de sa littérature, terrain qui a par ailleurs donné naissance et nourri certains travaux fondamentaux sur la question postcoloniale, sur le genre en contexte non-occidental et sur son traitement par la critique occidentale. Il vise enfin à souligner la pertinence d'une lecture contextualisée et non pas globale du sujet, du genre, de l'histoire et de la culture au prisme du texte littéraire, où s'élabore une « sémiotique indigène » qui indissocie les articulations féminines des permutations sociales et historiques
